GS3: Transfer Credit Evaluation

You may request an evaluation of previously earned graduate-level course credits, or for a previously awarded Master’s degree, to find out if they can transfer and count toward your degree program. You can do this when you’re admitted or anytime while attending CSU. If you’re considering a transfer credit evaluation, we strongly recommend doing so when submitting your GS6 Program of Study, as approved transfer credits may change what coursework is required for you to complete your degree.

Please note, your transfer credits will be rejected if they:

  • are not listed on your official transcript(s);
  • were not completed at a university accredited by a major regional accrediting agency;
  • do not reflect an earned grade of B or higher;
  • were completed more than 10 years ago;
  • were previously used to fulfill requirements for another degree earned; or
  • not equivalent to CSU graduate-level, regular courses (numbers X00 – X81).

 The number of credits you can transfer varies by degree. For more information, please refer to the University Credit Requirements page. Transfer coursework is not allowed for certificate programs.

Follow these instructions to request a transfer credit evaluation.

Step 1: Submit Your Official Transcripts

Submit your official transcripts, diplomas, or other required documents as listed in your Letter of Admission. An official transcript from each transfer-credit institution must be on file before the request can be evaluated; otherwise, the request will be denied. Please follow the instructions in theGuide to Submitting Your Transcripts.

Step 2: Access RamWeb

To access RAMweb, you must first create a CSU NetID and CSU email address as described on Step 3 of the Steps Once Admitted webpage.

Step 3: Complete the form Student Initiation

Using your NetID and password, log in to RamWeb, click on the menu and select “Graduate School” and then the “GS3-Evaluation of Transfer Credit form” button.

You must complete the official GS3 Form.

To request credit transfer courses, please include:

  • Subject & Course Number
  • Course Title
  • Grade Received
  • Number of Credits
  • Term Completed
  • Institution Name

To request that credits transfer from a prior graduate degree:

  • Select “yes” under the “List Credits from Awarded Master’s Degree” section
  • You will not list individual courses from a prior graduate degree, only the total number of credits.
You can find an example of the GS3 Form here, but do not fill out this form; access the form on RamWeb.

Step 4: Submit the GS3 form for Evaluation

Once you have completed the form, the submission will be routed to a designated faculty evaluator. Your submission will be approved or denied within 30 days of the submission, assuming your official transcripts are on file. You can monitor the status of your form on theInformation Technology Electronicforms website.

As an FYI, the following information will also need to be submitted by your evaluator if you are requesting to transfer courses from a foreign institution. (1) The CSU course equivalency to the transfer course(s) and how the advisor or department head came to that conclusion. (2) An explanation of how the advisor or department head is familiar with the course(s) being requested for transfer.
