Associate Dean of the Graduate School

Jozsef Vigh is an associate dean in the Graduate School and a professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. In his role, he provides administrative leadership across the graduate student lifecycle—from admission to graduation—while focusing on strategic planning, policy development, operational procedures, and faculty engagement. He also oversees petitions.
He has been a professor at CSU since 2007. His current research explores the effects of opioids on sleep patterns and the connection between disrupted sleep and suicidal thoughts. He has served on the Graduate Education Committee for the Department of Biomedical Sciences since 2013, including five years as chair. Prior to joining the Graduate School, he served as director of Graduate Center for Inclusive Mentoring for two years. At the Graduate School, Vigh has advanced key initiatives to strengthen graduate education, including efforts to standardize the admissions process, expand faculty mentor training, and create new funding opportunities such as the Summer Thesis/Dissertation Fellowship and the Land Grant Scholarship. He is currently leading a project aimed at improving the postdoctoral scholar experience at CSU.
A first-generation college graduate, Vigh earned his doctoral degree in neurobiology and began his academic career as a faculty member in Hungary. He also held research positions at New York University, the University of Utah, and Oregon Health & Sciences University before joining CSU.
