Once you become a CSU junior, we invite you to explore three ways you can begin earning graduate credentials before completing your bachelor’s degree: the Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP), graduate-level coursework, and graduate certificates. These options provide an academic on-ramp to graduate education while helping you save time and money.

Eligibility at a Glance

  • Undergraduate GPA: Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA strongly recommended prior to enrolling in graduate-level coursework options. A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA is required for admission to Accelerated Master’s programs.
  • Coursework: Only 500-level regular (numbers below 582) coursework qualifies for double counting. This means that undergraduates can take up to nine-credits of 500-level regular graduate coursework, and this coursework may count toward their undergraduate and, in some cases, a graduate program or certificate.
  • Minimum Grades: Grade of B or higher is required for double-counted courses to apply to your graduate credential.
  • Undergraduate standing: Once you have completed 75 undergraduate credits (junior or senior standing), you may participate in RAMp UP.

Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP)

Earn Your Master’s Degree Faster

The AMP enables you to seamlessly transition from a bachelor’s degree to a master’s program. Through this rigorous program, up to nine graduate-level credits may be counted towards both your undergraduate and master’s degree program. This allows you to gain a master’s degree in less time and at a reduced cost.

Why Choose AMP?

  • Complete both degrees faster! Many AMP students finish in five years.
  • Save money – Double-counted graduate credits are billed at undergraduate tuition rates. Tuition fees may vary for students taking hybrid (on-campus and online) courses within a semester. Please contact The Hub if you have questions.
  • Stay connected to the CSU community and continue working with the faculty and mentors who already know your strengths.
  • Apply to a graduate degree program at no cost.
  • Your conditional admission supports an early acceptance action by the graduate program while you complete your bachelor’s degree and provides early registration access.

AMP is ideal for students who want to maintain academic momentum and gain a competitive edge in their careers. This is the right choice for you if you prefer a highly defined program with no gap between your undergraduate and graduate studies.

Next Steps

Talk with your advisor about AMP, explore AMP Programs on your department’s website, or find AMP programs at CSU by visiting the Graduate Programs webpage and selecting the “Accelerated Master’s Program” button under the search bar.

Get Ahead with Graduate-Level Courses

Not ready to commit to a graduate program?  CSU gives you the opportunity to begin building graduate-level experience.

Once you have completed 75 undergraduate credits (junior or senior standing), you may take up to nine credits of 500-level regular (below 582) graduate coursework. These credits apply to your undergraduate degree now and may be eligible to apply toward a graduate degree (Master’s or Doctorate) or graduate certificate for up to 10 years, with program approval.

Why Take Graduate Credit as an Undergraduate?

  • This is a low-risk way to explore graduate education without additional costs beyond your undergraduate degree. You’re not required to start graduate school immediately, and credits earned now may be applied toward a graduate certificate or degree for up to 10 years.
  • Graduate-level coursework demonstrates your readiness for advanced study, builds your resume/CV, and enhances your career prospects.

This option is ideal if you want to gain initial graduate-level experience and evaluate your interest while keeping your options open.

Next Steps

Explore the Graduate Programs webpage to find programs that interest you. Meet with your advisor to identify 500-level regular coursework that could count towards your undergrad degree and a prospective graduate program or certificate.

Graduate Certificates

Graduate certificates are stand-alone credentials that allow you to gain advanced skills and expertise in as few as 9–15 credits. This credential is designed to help you achieve professional goals, deepen your knowledge in a given topic, and explore emerging fields.

Some graduate certificates include 500-level regular (below 582) coursework which is eligible for double-counting. This allows you to begin certificate coursework while completing your bachelor’s degree. Not all certificates qualify, and eligibility varies by program.

Why Earn a Graduate Certificate?

  • Specialized expertise allows you to stand out in the job market with advanced skills.

  • Flexible learning options allow you to choose from online or on-campus formats to fit your schedule.

  • Pay undergraduate tuition rates for graduate-level courses. Tuition fees may vary for students taking hybrid (on-campus and online) courses within a semester. Please contact The Hub if you have questions.

  • A stand-alone official graduate certificate will be issued upon completion of requirements.

This option is ideal if you want a stand-alone credential or are considering a future graduate degree. You may be able to count some or all courses taken for your certificate toward a CSU graduate degree.
